[Merlin's voice, slightly muffled because of the distance at first, is much clearer when he speaks again
after a few seconds, though he sounds anything but cheerful. If anything, he sounds sullen.]

It's Merlin. Sorry I missed you. I'm probably at the hospital or... [here, he pauses,
then continues like the words are being dragged out of him in the most painful manner possible.] Or being useful for my amazingly skilled, patient, and forgiving master instead of
dallying about and picking flowers like the girl's petticoat I usually am.

[A pained moment of silence.]

[It was that time again, or had been for the last few hours. There was a faint cry of agony from the other side of the door. It sounded weak, almost impossibly so. The sound was very different from anything Merlin had ever heard in the past while guarding her.]

(OOC: She's going through the pain of her runes controlling her hormones. It will be obvious soon that she can't do much of anything, especially not harm someone else, soon enough.)

[Merlin flinches, hesitating for several seconds as he debates with himself. He's guarded her often enough to know that it might be one of Other Samantha's tricks. Still, that had been a sound of agony, and Merlin can't bring himself to ignore it.

If she gets out, well, he'll just have to take responsibility for it. Merlin gets to his feet and pulls the door open. Time to see if her efforts have paid off]

[Elphaba's voice is somewhat ragged when she speaks. That's what you get, when you haven't been sleeping very well and you have a broken arm and more than a few bruises, but she figures she's put this off for long enough.]

I've heard the Teacher's Council was open to training people looking to find better ways of defending themselves than smacking someone with a broomstick and hoping for the best. [Her tone is somewhat wry, but still rather serious.] Are you still willing to take on someone rather lacking in defensive skills?

[Samantha's voice was cooler than he might have remembered. She'd been asleep for a few days. She was wearing the most ridiculous lime green sweater with reindeer on it right now. Her look, though, was serious.]

[Somehow, Merlin isn't surprised that people have started to notice Arthur's absence already. Arthur's a bit like the sun, as ridiculous as that might sound. He's a bright presence in the city, with a sense of justice and strength that draw so many to him. His absence is a dark cloud...of course people would notice.]

[ she cannot sleep, not for the life of her. Merlin has been quiet and Morgana had moved from destroying her room to crying and to curling in her bed awaiting something (anything; being sent home too, arthur coming back, the sky falling on their heads anything) but she cannot sleep.

she stays in bed for two hours before moving to her feet and barefoot, moving towards the room merlin shared with arthur. she doesn't knock, only slides in quietly and moves to sit on his bed. ]

It's not the first time he's heard of the place calling itself the 'Citadel', but it is the first time he's been interested enough to come. As refreshing as the sparring at the arena had been, walking back afterward he'd kept thinking of when he'd first learned the sword, kept finding himself trying to imagine his old teacher's face if Cort had seen how clumsy Roland had been. It doesn't sit well.

So when he sees the Citadel, he follows a whim and goes inside. Roland's never been in it before, knows little about it, but he's sure if he looks around long enough he'll find someone.

Merlin looks up when he hears the door open, stopping in the middle of polishing a pile of armour. Some things never change apparently.

The man's face looks familiar to him, and it takes a second for him to recall exactly where he's seen it. "We met at the library before, haven't we?" Merlin asks, a smile already forming. He sets the piece of armour in the "clean" pile and raises a hand in greeting.

"Hello again. What brings you here?"

[ this is actually not something new for her, but it must be for him. she comes and goes as she pleases, treating asgard as a sandbox of her own. her interest in him lies in his name. he's Merlin and that is enough to merit a visit.

so she visits. keeps close tabs on him and finds out he moved and when he finds her in his apartment, she is sitting in an armchair with a cup of coffee. ]
