Merlin's Bracelet // IC Contact (New)

Arthur, you can't be serious. Oh, come on--ow!
[Merlin's voice, slightly muffled because of the distance at first, is much clearer when he speaks again
after a few seconds, though he sounds anything but cheerful. If anything, he sounds sullen.]
It's Merlin. Sorry I missed you. I'm probably at the hospital or... [here, he pauses,
then continues like the words are being dragged out of him in the most painful manner possible.] Or being useful for my amazingly skilled, patient, and forgiving master instead of
dallying about and picking flowers like the girl's petticoat I usually am.
[A pained moment of silence.]
Leave a message for me here and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Grazie mille, Merlin! I think you find it worth the wait.
Si, later this afternoon maybe? Or I could drop it by your residence later this evening?
I should be done in a couple hours. Would that be all right with you?
That would be fine! We are used to guests popping in, you really would not be a bother. I will have some tea ready then and we can make this a proper unveiling!

The workshop door creaks slightly as he steps in and looks around.]
Leonardo?

Mi dispiace, Merlin!
[Leonardo clamored down from the nearby ladder, taking the time to retrieve the nails, before greeting his guest.]
I was just... Well, it doesn't matter now. Your painting is right over here!
[He lead the way over to an easel where a very Leonardo-styled painting was resting. ]

That's all right. Er, do I want to know what you were doing with the nails? [He starts edging toward the painting even as he asks.]

[The painting still glistened with the oil colors used to create it. It was dry to the touch but would take a bit longer to fully setup. Oils did take some patience.]
So, how do you like it? Is this what you were hoping for?
[Merlin was given a playful verbal nudge.]
The one you commissioned this for will love it?
no subject
[While his interest is piqued by the flying machine, the portrait of Arthur's mother is much more important at the moment.]
It's...beautiful, Leonardo. [Merlin reaches out like he wants to touch it, but his fingertips only hover above the painting.] I don't know how you got her likeness so perfectly.
[And Merlin's too preoccupied with studying the art to really watch what he's saying.]
I think he'll love it.

[His interests and accomplishments were set aside instead of his going on at length about them. At least for the moment he found Merlin's reaction to the painting far more interesting. People often did find his work moving enough to become some what awestruck by it but... And maybe this was nothing, but Merlin's feelings seemed a little more than those of your average art lover. ]
Arthur, you mean?
[He smiled as he studied Merlin... who was studying the painting. ]
It is a very thoughtful gift, I am sure he will be very grateful to you for commissioning it. He must be very important to you?
no subject
[While Merlin's surprised Leonardo guessed, he doesn't realise the other man's studying him just yet.]
Arthur's mother died giving birth to him, and he's always wished to see more of her. I just--wanted to give him that, I suppose.
no subject
How tragic, I had no idea. It is difficult to grow up without a mother constantly around but for her to have died...
[The gift becomes all the more precious. He reached out to pat Merlin's shoulder before hurrying to a back room and reappearing a moment later with some paper.]
I can wrap this for you? You might want to decorate it more later, I only have plain brown paper, but it should help you move the painting without damage.
no subject
I can't begin to thank you enough for this.
[His eyes flicker between Leonardo and the portrait.]
You ought to be filling the city with your art. You're even more talented than the artists we had in Camelot.
no subject
Sadly most here are more interested in acquiring weapons for the war than paintings for the wall, but si, I should paint more than I have been.
You enjoy it that is enough of a thank you, that and the payment of course.
[Merlin was given a smile in return, this one touched with just a hint of mischief. ]
I should wish you buona fortuna, hm?
