[Merlin's voice, slightly muffled because of the distance at first, is much clearer when he speaks again
after a few seconds, though he sounds anything but cheerful. If anything, he sounds sullen.]

It's Merlin. Sorry I missed you. I'm probably at the hospital or... [here, he pauses,
then continues like the words are being dragged out of him in the most painful manner possible.] Or being useful for my amazingly skilled, patient, and forgiving master instead of
dallying about and picking flowers like the girl's petticoat I usually am.

[A pained moment of silence.]

[Oh, work. That's a good distraction. Merlin straightens up and focuses on the screen.]

That's all right. I don't think any of us really know what's going on in the city, except the gods. What've you got?

[Frey would be in agreement there, honestly.] I have reason to suspect that we might be seeing an attack from the outside sooner rather the later.

[If he wasn't trying to pay attention earlier, he definitely is now.]

Why do you say that? I mean, there was the thing with the people getting taken out of the city and returning really injured, but that was just Baldr messing around.

As I said before, it is only a suspicion. But the group they ran into concerns me, as does the timing.

According to Conan, the area they found themselves in was likely near the city. The group was small... too small for an attack, But it does not sound like the proper size for a hunting party, either.

[Being of the medieval era, and knowing what he does of attack strategies from Arthur, Merlin gets it after a second. His expression darkens.]

So you think that was a scouting party? Not that they just got dropped near the other city?

Conan said the landscape what like what we would find close outside the city. I believe that might possibly be the case, though without more information I cannot be sure. But if they were close to the city.... there should be little reason for hostile forces to wander so close to the city on whim if we are at war.

As we are now, we are probably viewed as ripe for an attack. It has been a while yet since the last attack from outside forces, and the city is far more colorful then grey now. People will not expect it.

It's true...the only recent trouble we've had from outside was the other Loki, but that was more of a trick than anything.

And we know the Queen and King of the other cities have already declared war. I'm surprised they haven't done anything before this.

I have been surprised, as well. It makes no sense that they have not attacked again for so long. I can only guess they are either trying to get a feel for our abilities and growing population or are busy with things in their own lands.

Which means, if they're sending out scouts, they're done simply watching.

[Which is a very, very thing. The city's nowhere close to ready at this point.]

Do you think we should have a lot around ourselves? Gather a small group? If we know what to expect, we should be fine.

I think that patrols around the city might be a wise choice, if we can organize them. I am unsure if it is wise to share such information publicly, which is why I have only mentioned it to a few... it is still yet only guesswork.

[Merlin nods distractedly.]

What power do you have? If you, me, and Conan go out with a few of our friends, that should be enough. We're looking for signs of activity, not trying to fight them.

[His power.....] I ended up with energy transfer.

I am sure Lyon, my friend, would be willing to help as well. She is from Heimdall. [Friend and bodyguard. Details.] Both of us can fight in case of an attack if needed, though you are right to say that a fight is not what we should be seeking.

That'd be great. Conan's got Body Control--that should buy us some time to escape if we get caught somehow. And I've got healing, in case any of us get hurt along the way.

I'll see if anyone else I know would be willing to come with us. When do you think we should do this?

[Merlin looks to the side, falling silent for a moment.] I don't have much to do right now--if we're going to do a little scouting of our own, we should do it soon, in case they are preparing for an attack.

We should. Do you have a specific time and date in mind?

In a few days, maybe? That should give us some time to prepare and ask our friends if they'd be willing to come with us.

I see no problem with that. Shall I contact you, or will you be contacting me?

[Merlin nods after a moment.] I could contact you.
